Why would I need a root canal?

Inside the hard exterior of the tooth, there is a soft pulp chamber. This pulp is made up of soft tissue, nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.

If a cavity in the tooth isn’t filled or if a tooth is cracked or broken, bacteria can get into the pulp of the tooth. The bacteria will start to multiply and cause an infection. This can cause a lot of pain, but it can also lead to an abscessed tooth. An abscess is a pocket of pus that forms on the tooth root around a food particle or other foreign body. An abscess or a tooth infection can be very serious. It can cause swelling in the face, neck and head, and bone loss around the root tip of the tooth.

Dr. Sibia can tell you if you need root canal treatment. If you have these symptoms, you should make an appointment with Dr. Sibia right away:

Severe tooth pain when you chew

A tooth that has turned a dark color

Gums that are unusually swollen and tender

Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures

What is the root canal procedure?

A root canal procedure may take one to three dental appointments.

Before the root canal, Dr. Sibia will perform a thorough oral exam and will take X-rays of the tooth to check for infection in the bone surrounding the tooth. He will numb the area with a local anesthesia.

Then, he will drill a small hole in the crown of the tooth and remove the infected pulp, and clean out and disinfect the inside of the tooth. He will fill the inside of the tooth with an elastic material, and he may also inject an antibiotic medicine to fight infection. Then, he will place a filling or a crown to protect the tooth.

What is rotary endodontics?

Older methods used for root canal treatments can be uncomfortable and nerve wracking for patients!

Rotary endodontics make the procedure go a lot faster. In rotary endodontics, electric-powered instruments are used rather than traditional hand-held files. These instruments have nickel titanium tip, which is strong and flexible.

frequently Asked Questions

What are the Benefits of Rotary Endodontics?

Quick and Efficient Cleaning

  • Nickel titanium tips clean the root canal space swiftly and smoothly.

Increased Reliability

  • Enhances the already high success rate of root canal procedures with fewer complications.

Quieter Operation

  • Operates much quieter than traditional instruments, reducing patient anxiety.

Faster Treatment Time

  • Shorter procedures lead to greater comfort for patients during treatment.

Most people are surprised to find that a root canal hurts about as much as having a cavity filled. And, with the use of rotary endodontics, patients are even more comfortable during the procedure, and it can take less time.

And, because a root canal cleans out pulp that is painful and infected, most people are happy to discover that the root canal has actually given them relief from the pain.

The loss of the nerves and the tooth pulp won’t affect how your tooth functions. And, because a crown or a filling will cover the tooth, most people will never be able to tell that you’ve had a root canal done.

Most patients can get back to their regular activities within a day. Although your gums will be sore for a few days after the procedure, you should try to get back to your oral health care regimen as soon as you can.

If you are in pain, you can try an over-the-counter pain reliever. For a few days after the procedure, eat soft foods, and chew on the side opposite of the root canal site. Dr. Sibia will give you an antibiotic to take; make sure you follow the instructions for this medication.

If you notice that the pain or tenderness is increasing, if you lose your filling or crown, or if you have a bad reaction to the antibiotic, you should call Ace Dental in Roseville right away.
